What is the difference between Linux and Unix?

Ok, so I'm curious. What exactly is the difference between Unix and Linux? I know Linux is just a kernel. What about the different UNIX system that make them different from Linux? What do the other versions of Unix that Linux offers no? If written by Linus Torvalds Linux is just a kernel, of Linux are modified and offered by Red Hat, SuSE or Ubuntu kernels yet? Thanks. What is offered in all other Unix that is not present in Linux?

ANY operating system uses the kernel to load the machine. This is the basic program needed to make reading programs hard disk, configure the necessary hardware and produce a user interface. Unix was originally designed for the specific architecture and do not run in an IBM-style computer, which is what we now recognize as a PC, which was written for a specific and highly complex to include the use of the network, particularly through of dumb terminals. These were basically a screen with a keyboard. As it developed became a full network system very similar to the networks they use now. The Linux kernel was developed from Unix to make it possible to use a PC as an economic engine in a network without security problems and the performance of MS Windows. Throughout how attracted a large number of developers have added features to different desktops, additional services and management systems are now many. The difference between the distributions is in large part on the decisions of such desktops, and how each manages. And where the original system was about all aimed at server, systems beyond providing priority for workstation use, but still have server programs available. So it's easy to the same core function as a workstation, or by activating the required services and the elimination of some of the desktop functions server is a lightweight but powerful.
