Which combination is best for CAD / Mathematics engineer and programmer?
Intel Core i5 760 (Take 11) + 1GB GeForce GTS 450 or AMD (Equivalent price) Phenom II X6 + Radeon equivalent, both machines have 4GB of RAM. I mainly plan to use it for CAD (Auto CAD and Solidworks), Mathematics (Matlab control toolbox), programming (PHP, Java, C #) and maintenance of Web servers in Sun VirtualBox virtual (PHP, MySQL, maybe JP JSP Linux / Unix or Windows servers to test.) Also I have a good base of knowledge in Adobe products (Photoshop, Illustrator and Flash). You do not have to be an expert in each of these responding fields, you can answer any of these individually.
Your biggest problem will be the RAM. I suggest you get an i7 for CAD requires maximum CPU power and RAM – the power of two, the better. I have one year of experience in CAD and I can tell you that RAM is the biggest bottleneck … Then the CPU.
